Do you have a specialty or expertise you want to write about? From health and fitness to travel and adventure to science and business, there’s a wide array of topics for nonfiction writers. BenBella Books and Skyhorse Publishing are open to unagented and unsolicited submissions of nonfiction manuscripts.
Unlike publishers of novels and novellas, nonfiction publishers accept proposals or pitches. Even if you haven’t written or finished writing your manuscript, you can start looking for a publisher now if you have a proposal for your book idea. Some publishing houses may ask for an outline.
